With Arms Wide Open

Artist: Creed
Album: Human Clay

Well I just heard the news today
It seems my life is going to change
I close my eyes, begin to pray
Then tears of joy stream down my face
With arms wide open
Under the sunlight
Welcome to this place
I'll show you everything
With arms wide open

Well I don't know if I'm ready
To be the man I have to be
I'll take a breath, take her by my side
We stand in awe, we've created life
With arms wide open

Under the sunlight
Welcome to this place
I'll show you everything
With arms wide open

Now everything has changed
I'll show you love
I'll show you everything
With arms wide open

If I had just one wish
Only one demand
I hope he's not like me
I hope he understands
That he can take this life
And hold it by the hand
And he can greet the world
With arms wide open

*** Me and Tel were talking about the meaning of this song last Monday on the way home. She told me that "With Arms Wide Open" song is about a father who learned that he's gonna have a baby and chose not to abort it, like welcoming the child with arms wide open literally. And so, we were looking for other meanings while listening over the mp3 in my phone and realized it could be that.

Tel, this info is for you. I learned that this song implies a father's love towards his son, that upon learning that he will become a father, he would not let his son suffered the way he used to. It signifies the love for his son, protecting him from harm and wishing that he can be a good father. Tel, our analysis of the lyrics is somewhat fair.. :)

So, I wonder why most of the parents would not let their children grow up without suffering. Basically, it is very normal to protect the sons/daughters but how can they even become strong if you're not gonna let them experience pain and become over protective. I remembered the movie, Finding Nemo. It was about the father being so protective with his son, afraid of loosing him and Nemo being hurt.

Im not saying that I will let my future children suffer, but at least consider the fact that they can be open to any experience that can contribute to their whole being. I hope I can be there for my children the time they would need me. I can keep them away from harm as much as I can, but still, they need to be strong and independent. It's kinda knowing how to balance things. I want them to learn life and experience it, and at the same time, learn from it so that they could cherish every moment of their life regardless of any trials and problems that they may face.
